Shilajit: Ayurvedic Medicine’s “Panacea” May Support Testosterone
Shilajit is a mineral-rich resin found primarily in the Himalayan mountains. It develops over centuries from the slow decomposition of certain plants by the action of microorganisms.
Shilajit has been known and used for centuries in Ayurvedic medicine. It is a potent and very safe dietary supplement that has been shown to have a positive effect on our overall health and well-being.
In clinical studies Purified Shilajit has been shown to up-regulate collagen, increase bone mineral density, reduce oxidative stress and inflammation, stimulate the immune system, improve skin health, support sexual health, increase mitochondrial energy and ATP, improve CoQ10 bioavailability, and enhance muscular strength endurance.
Purified Shilajit may also support natural testosterone production. In one study 250mg of Shilajit twice per day increased free testosterone by 23% and total testosterone by 19%, compared to a placebo.
Testosterone is critical for men, and is associated with sex drive, mental health, bone and muscle mass, fat storage, and red blood cell production.
Testosterone is also important for women, and helps with the growth, maintenance, and repair of a woman's reproductive tissues and bone mass.
Low testosterone levels can affect our energy and mental clarity, and can contribute to brain fog, depression and other mental health concerns.
While Shilajit may not quite be a panacea, it certainly has numerous health benefits such as improving energy, vitality, strength and mental functioning, and may even slow the aging process.
